Welcome!

I am a Social-Personality Psychology PhD candidate at the University of Texas at Austin. Under the advisement of Dr. Bertram Gawronski, I use a social-cognitive approach to uncover the mechanisms underlying (1) moral judgments and perceptions and (2) misinformation susceptibility. My research uses computational modeling approaches and involves conducting lab and online studies with observational and experimental methods.

As a proponent of open science practices, my published projects’ data, codes, and materials are available on my OSF page, and my preprints are available on my ResearchGate page. You can also find my published works’ DOIs, OSF links, and open-access articles (if any) on the Research page of this website. If you have any questions about my research, feel free to reach out to me at nyx@utexas.edu.

  • I hail from Singapore and received much of my academic training there. Aside from being a born and bred Southeast Asian, I have also had the fortune of calling other dynamic cities like Shanghai, London, and NYC home at different points. My international exposure and interest in socio-political issues contributed to my desire to research the universal psychological principles underlying morality and the socio-contextual factors that produce systematic differences in moral judgments and behaviors.

Outside of my research, I spend most of my time fawning over my pets, snapping photos, visiting museums, and travelling.

  • My first name is pronounced ‘nix’/‘nicks’ and my last name ‘uhng’. If you are still struggling with the latter, my last name is a dialectal variation of the common family name Hwang/Huang (黄), so you can address me by that too.
